Greg Abbott’s office tore into Eric Adams after the New York City mayor called the influx of illegal immigrants being bused to the Big Apple ‘horrific’.
‘Mayor Adams is hypocritically upset about welcoming a few dozen into his sanctuary city’ the Texas GOP governor’s Press Secretary Renae Eze said in reaction to the comments made by the mayor over the weekend.
She explained in the statement: ‘These migrants willingly chose to go to New York City, having signed a voluntary consent waiver, available in multiple languages, upon boarding that they agreed to the destination.’
When speaking at a news conference Sunday morning at the Port Authority in New York City Adams said: ‘This is horrific when you think about what the governor is doing.’
‘What’s horrific’ Abbott’s top spokesperson shot back on Monday ‘is the thousands of illegal immigrants overrunning and overwhelming our border communities with populations smaller than a New York City borough.’
Contrary to Abbott’s claims Adams insisted Sunday that many of those arriving in buses over the weekend were not aware that their final destination was New York City.
